EPS is a multidisciplinary ecology consultancy based in Manchester. We help developers, contractors, architects and councils get through the planning process, working across most of the UK.

We cover the whole process, from the first scoping survey and Preliminary Ecological Appraisal, through specialist protected species surveys, to Biodiversity Net Gain assessments and the reports that go with your planning application. Our ecologists hold survey licences for most protected species, so we can carry out the work ourselves and give you clear advice on what it means for your scheme.

We also specialise in fish rescue and fish surveys for works in and around water, from culvert replacements to pond and lake drain-downs.

Fish surveys and fish rescue

We safely catch and move fish before works in or near water, and carry out fish surveys for planning and river projects across the UK.

Protected species surveys

Our licensed ecologists use recognised survey methods to find out whether protected species such as bats, great crested newts, badgers, reptiles and nesting birds use your site, and what that means for your plans.

Biodiversity Net Gain

We measure your site's biodiversity value using the statutory metric and show how your development can deliver the required gain, with habitats lost on site made up for by new or improved habitats.

Preliminary Ecological Appraisal

Usually the first ecological survey for a development. We combine a desk study with a walkover habitat survey to tell you early on whether ecology could affect your scheme.

Aerial tree inspections

Our ecologists climb and inspect trees with features bats could use, giving a clearer answer and often reducing the need for night-time surveys.

River condition assessments

We assess the condition of rivers and streams using the MoRPh survey method, to support Biodiversity Net Gain and river projects.
